Preliminary version of an illustration for Lewis Carroll's Rhyme? and reason?. Although the poem "Atalanta in Camden Town" did appear in this book, this illustration appeared with another poem, "Hiawatha's photographing". Back view of a man in a very large hat with a paper clasped in his hands behind his back.

Lewis Carroll, born Charles Lutwidge Dodson was born in England at Daresbury, Cheshire, to Charles Dodgson, an Anglican clergyman, and his wife Frances Jane Lutwidge on January 27, 1832.
